Si vous êtes un fan des manoirs abandonnés, vous voudrez certainement entendre parler de celui situé à Elkins Park, en Pennsylvanie, aux États-Unis. Le manoir, connu sous le nom de Lynnewood Hall, vaut 256 millions de dollars et a une histoire fascinante liée au Titanic.
Leland Kent, qui gère un blog et un compte Instagram appelé Abandoned Southeast , s’intéresse particulièrement aux lieux abandonnés, historiques ou hors des sentiers battus du sud-est des États-Unis, et Lynnewood Hall fait parfaitement l’affaire. En fait, Kent était tellement intrigué par le manoir qu’il a passé deux jours à l’explorer au début de l’année dernière.
Selon Kent, les propriétaires originaux de Lynnewood Hall étaient la famille Widener. Cependant, la famille a eu un passé tragique, car George et Harry Widener, fils et petit-fils de Peter Widener, propriétaire de Lynnewood Hall, sont morts dans le naufrage du Titanic.
Les deux sont allés en France pour trouver un chef français pour travailler dans leur nouvel hôtel, le Ritz Carlton, mais ne sont jamais rentrés chez eux. Avec 110 chambres impressionnantes, le manoir lui-même a été construit entre 1898 et 1900 et a coûté 8 millions de dollars à construire.
Malgré sa grandeur, Lynnewood Hall a connu plusieurs propriétaires, dont beaucoup l’ont laissé à l’abandon, l’état dans lequel il se trouve depuis 1996, date à laquelle il a été acheté par une église coréenne.
Malheureusement, l’église n’a pas pu payer les frais d’entretien de la propriété et a fini par quitter le manoir. docteur Richard Yoon, le chef de l’église coréenne, aurait combattu la municipalité locale concernant le statut d’exonération fiscale de la propriété, car les taxes à elles seules valaient
« bien plus de 100 000 dollars par an », selon Kent.
L’église étant incapable de vendre la propriété, malgré des offres bien supérieures au prix demandé, Lynnewood Hall reste vide.
On ne sait pas ce que l’avenir réserve à ce grand manoir, mais nous ne pouvons qu’espérer qu’un jour il retrouvera son ancienne gloire.
Etrange et Insolite 
If you had of watched France 24 News Station,they did mention that Lynnewood Hall had in fact changed ownership. Rates to the tune of $11,000,000,00 were owed against the property. A property with $11,000,000,00 debt,would be sold but to millionaires or billionaires. The Municipality has been short of cash. No one bothered to approach the Municipality to enquire about who’s name is on the evaluation roll.
Lynnewood Hall was sold in 2019. The group known as the Lynnewood Hall Preservation Fund has also being trying to purchase the property. Their investor’s pulled out of the investment by their own admission. The restoration costs would add up to $50,000,000,00+. The costs are
very high. The house was sold.
The most economical way of renovating Lynnewood Hall is to come to France and look at some French Chateau’s that are crumbling, with nature taking over,is to negotiate the the procurement of wooden panelling,marble flooring,fire places and mantel pieces,15 -19 century furniture and artifacts. Most people don’t want these period pieces. Widener family also sourced fixtures from France as well. There has been so much attention on Lynnewood Hall and now it’s so well known,now. The State of Pennsylvania and the Municipality of Elkins Park has been trying to get investment in their state and town.
